Minister Tang Renjian Meets with UK Counterpart

Minister Tang Renjian met with Thérèse Coffey, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs of the UK, in Beijing on Nov. 8, 2023.They exchanged views on deepening agricultural cooperation between China and the UK.

Minister Tang said China–UK agricultural cooperation started early and is rich in content. The two countries have achieved significant results in areas such as cooperation mechanisms, S&T exchanges, and agricultural trade, and have conducted pioneering projects in green development in agriculture in recent years, thus playing a positive role in promoting China–UK relations. China hopes to work with the UK to leverage existing mechanisms, strengthen tripartite cooperation, conduct exchanges in rural development, and carry forward sustainable food and agricultural development.

Secretary of State Coffey agreed with Minister Tang, saying that the UK hopes to work with China to implement the Memorandum of Understanding on China–UK Cooperation in Green Agricultural Development, conduct close exchanges on issues such as animal disease control and access of meat products to China’s market, hence improving pragmatic agricultural cooperation.

Vice Minister Ma Youxiang attended the meeting.
